Richard J. Nagle, Ph.D. has served as Clinical Director at Pine Grove since 2000. He received his doctoral degree in school psychology with distinction from Columbia University. He served as a faculty member and Director of the School Psychology Program at the University of South Carolina from 1975 to 2006. He was named the Louise Fry Scudder Professor in recognition of his record of sustained excellence in mentoring, teaching, research, and service outside the university. Dr. Nagle also earned the designation of Distinguished Professor and Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He has held an endowed chair, the Kulynych-Cline Visiting Distinguished Professorship, in the Department of Psychology at Appalachian State University from 2006-2008.
Dr. Nagle has served on the editorial boards of the American Journal on Mental Retardation, Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, School Psychology Review, and Psychological and Educational Research. He is the author of over 200 research articles, book chapters, and presentations at professional meetings. Dr. Nagle has specialized in the assessment and treatment of children with autism and other developmental disabilities. He is a member of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, the American Psychological Association, and the National Association of School Psychologists. He is a Fellow in School Psychology (Division 16) of the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Nagle also worked as a staff psychologist at Apple Creek State Institute, Apple Creek, Ohio. He has served as a consulting psychologist to numerous federal and state agencies, as well as local school districts throughout South Carolina. He has also worked with several advocacy groups and has served on the Human Rights Committee at Midlands Center, a state residential facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities for the past 30 years.
